Quick Prawn Curry

This is a tangy prawn curry with very few ingredients. Amma used to make this very often, it just brought my childhood memories. This can be made in under 30 mins if you have already cleaned and deveined the prawns. Me and mams got a chance to get some prawns from market this week, so made this curry and didnt forget to take a snap to share it with you all.

Ingredients:
Prawns - 500 gm
Tomato - 1 finely chopped
Onion - 1 big finely chopped
Chilli powder - 1 tbsp
Turmeric powder - a pinch
Salt to taste

To temper:
Curry leaves - few
Mustard  & Cummin seeds and oil

Method:
Heat some oil in a pan and add curry leaves and mustard & cummin seeds and allow it to splutter.
Saute onion till it turns transparent. Then saute tomato till it turns mushy.
Once done add turmeric, salt and chilli powder, give a mix, close and cook for few mins till the raw smell goes.
Then add the cleaned prawns, give a quick stir and cook for 10 mins.
Garnish with coriander leaves if needed. Serve hot with plain rice and papadam. Enjoy :)

Notes:

Dont overcook the prawns as it changes its texture to rubber.
Make sure to clean the prawns well and devein it or it might lead to food poisoning.

Sura Puttu/ Scrambled Fish Fry

I was watching all the episodes of Kitchen Superstar of vijay tv. Whenever the contestants got a chance to cook fish, atleast one was there making sura puttu. I got a craving to taste it. I was not able to get shark fish for doing it. I replaced it with salmon. It tasted very good. So here is the recipe.
Ingredients:
Salmon Cutlet
2(around 1 kg)
Onion
1 chopped finely
Garlic 10 cloves
Chopped finely
Ginger
½ quantity of garlic chopped finely
Green Chillies
3 chopped finely
Chilli powder
1.5 tbsp
Coriander
¾ tbsp
Pepper powder
1 tbsp
Cumin seed
1 tbsp
Mustard seeds
1 tbsp
Curry leaves
few
Turmeric powder
½ tbsp

Method:
1.       Clean the cutlet and cook it with little water and turmeric powder. Once cooled, remove the flesh of fish alone.
2.       In a heavy bottomed pan, heat oil (I use gingelly oil for making any fish curry). Splutter the mustard seeds. Once done, add the cumin seeds and curry leaves.
3.       Then sauté onion, garlic, green chillies and ginger pieces.Add the scrambled fish. To avoid burning, you can sprinkle some water.
4.      Add all the masala powders and fry for another 5 mins till everything gets mixed well

5.       Check for salt. Serve hot with rasam or sambar rice.

Tomato
1 big sliced

Chilli powder

Coriander Powder

Turmeric powder

Salt to taste

Coriander leaves

2.       Then add the tomatoes and fry till it turns mushy. Add all the masala powders and fry till the raw smell goes off.
3.       Then add the prawns and fry for 2 mins. Add little water and cover it with a lid. Allow to cook on low flame for 20-30 mins on low flame.
4.       Once the prawn is cooked, fry till all the water drains off and the curry reaches a semi-gravy consistency. Garnish with coriander leaves.
