I don't know if you have tasted this poriyal, but my amma used to make it often. I like to eat with plain rice and this poriyal alone. If you have some fried appalam left out, you can try this poriyal. It has its unique taste to go with dal or sambar or plain rice.
Ingredients:
Appalam - 6 to 8 fried
Onion - 1/2
Turmeric powder - a pinch
Mustard seeds
Curry leaves
Oil
Salt to taste
To grind to a coarse mixture
Coconut - 1/4 tbsp
Jeera - 1 tbsp
Red Chilli - 1
Shallots - 10
Method:
- Break the appalam into small pieces
- Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds and curry leaves.
- Once the mustard seeds splutters, add the onion and saute till it turns golden brown.
- Then add the appalam pieces and give a quick stir. Add turmeric powder and ground mixture and cook till raw smell is gone.
- Add salt to taste. Add little salt as appalam might have some salt. Enjoy
